Minister For Finance, Mr Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam unveiled a Resilience Package totalling $20.5 billion during Budget Speech 2009.

The Package help ordinary Singaporeans like us in many ways-

Individuals

1) 20% tax rebates for Y/A 2009
Households will get a 20 per cent personal income tax rebate for Year of Assessment 2009, capped at S$2,000.

2) Lose your job last year or this year? Tax Instalments up to 24 months

Individual tax residents who have lost their jobs in 2008 or this year will also be able to pay their personal income taxes this year in instalments of up to 24 months, up from the current 12 months.

3) GST Credits To Double

FAMILIES will enjoy a doubling of GST credits and generous benefits to help them live on reduced incomes this year.

4) Workfare Income Supplement

Low income workers who may face lower wages or even fewer working hours–which would mean a smaller take-home pay–will benefit from the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) with an additional 50 per cent payment.
