Career As A Financial Consultant In Singapore?

Thu, Feb 26, 2009

Hi Helmi,

I have been following your blog for sometimes, would like to get to know more about you and your profession.

For a beginner, what does it take to become a financial consultant like you ? How does the current market condition impact you ? To be very frank, i am currently unemployed, hence i am thinking for a career switch. But before that, i would like to seek some advice from more people in this industry.

Looking forward your sincere reply, thanks.

Thank you, for your email.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

The reason, I am publishing this email in my blog, is because I have been receiving a number of such emails, wanting to know more about choosing financial consultant as a career.

I will be ultimately frank and open with you about this.

Being a financial consultant is a challenging yet rewarding career. CHALLENGING in the sense, you get to “taste” a lot of rejections, REWARDING, in the sense of “fulfiment” seeing your client buy your idea of having insurance as a form of income replacement, savings or investment for his retirement, child’s education or simply to improve standards of living.

When you join any insurance company as a financial consultant, you will have to take this 2 compulsory exams called M5 and M9.

For the first few months, it will be challenging for you, as you begin to adapt with the new company, learn new skills and make new friends.

There is a popular understanding that this career is “flexible”, work at your own time, but reality is that if you want to be truly successful in the business, you have to put in time and energy to see RESULTS.

Be prepared to work hard and you will reapt the rewards. ๐Ÿ™‚

Positive mindset is a MUST MUST in any field of endeavour.

Example: A negative person will interpret current market situation as an “excuse” not to perform.

While a POSITIVE person, sees it as an opportunity to recommend clients, investments as the market is so low now.

A POSITIVE person sees that the very fact, that the economy is not doing very well now, is the very REASON why people need to set aside enough contingency funds for emergency use.

The very fact, the economy is not doing very well now, is the very REASON why sole breadwinners need to ensure that they have sufficient insurance coverage for themselves.

….. and yes…INCENTIVE TRIPS….These sponsored trips excite me a lot!! It is time where we relax and bond together. ๐Ÿ™‚

Last year, we went to Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam.

This coming April, we are going to Gold Coast, Australia.

…and next year, our incentive trips will be in Beijing, China.

The rewards are there. Just need to work for it!

…. and if you are looking for a career that offers CPF, only NTUC Income financial consultants get that. There is a list of benefits that you will enjoy as a financial consultant with NTUC Income, and I can arrange an appointment for you with my manager if you like to know more.

Thanks and hope my explanation helps! ๐Ÿ™‚
